Meet Head Coach: Jonathan Harley
Jonathan Harley has joined the Providence College Sailing Team as its new coach. A life-long resident of Rhode Island, and a Providence native, Harley learned to sail and race on Buzzard’s Bay. He is a graduate of URI where he was Captain of the Sailing Team which won the ICSA (ICYRA) Morse Trophy. His love of sailing evolved into a career that started with running the racing program at New Bedford Yacht Club for 3 years after which he spent one year sailing from New Bedford to Tahiti and back aboard a 50' ketch before taking over the waterfront educational programs at Mystic Seaport Museum. For over 25 years he was Director of Olympic Sailing in the United States, during which time US athletes won 29 medals in 6 Olympiads. He has raced in the Finn and Laser classes, and still competes in the Beetlecat. |
